About the Faculty and Facilities
With roots dating back to 1966, Dicle
University Faculty of Medicine has grown into one of the most prominent medical
institutions in the region. The faculty boasts a massive healthcare complex,
including a 1400-bed main hospital,
as well as specialized hospitals for Oncology, Cardiology, Pediatrics, and a
dedicated Burn Unit. Students benefit from the mentorship of over 700 teaching
staff and a highly diverse patient demographic, providing an exceptional
environment for clinical practice. To date, the faculty has trained over 4,150
medical doctors and nearly 1,600 specialists.
Curriculum Structure
The 6-year medical education program is
carefully structured to integrate basic sciences with early and extensive
clinical exposure:
·
Phase I: Basic Medical Sciences (Years 1-3)
During the first three years, students focus on the
biological foundations of medicine, learning cellular biology, anatomy,
physiology, and pathology organized by body systems. Alongside these basic
sciences, the curriculum features "Good
Medical Practices" (İyi Hekimlik Uygulamaları), a core module designed
to teach early clinical skills, medical ethics, and effective patient
communication using humanistic approaches and simulation models.
·
Phase II: Clinical Clerkships (Years 4-5)
Students transition to the hospital environment,
taking mandatory clerkships in major disciplines such as Internal Medicine,
General Surgery, Pediatrics, Gynecology and Obstetrics, Cardiology, and
Neurology. This phase is designed to integrate theoretical knowledge with
hands-on diagnosis and treatment planning.
·
Phase III: Internship / Family Medicine (Year 6)
The final year is an immersive 12-month internship.
Working under supervision, intern doctors actively participate in patient care,
emergency medicine, rural/family medicine, and various elective clinics,
gaining the necessary experience and skills to practice medicine independently.
Admission and Progression
Admission to the program requires a high
school diploma and successful placement through the national university
entrance examination, or fulfilling the international student admission
criteria set by the Turkish Council of Higher Education (YÖK).
The medical curriculum is sequential;
successfully completing a full academic year is a strict prerequisite for
advancing to the next year.
Graduation and Career Prospects
To graduate, students must successfully
complete all courses and clinical rotations, accumulating a total of 360 ECTS credits. Graduates are
equipped to work as primary care physicians or may choose to take medical
specialization exams to continue their training in a specific field of
medicine.
