General Information

Dicle University Faculty of Medicine Department of Histology and Embryology

History and Mission

The Department of Histology and Embryology of Dicle University Faculty of Medicine began its education and research activities in 1969, during the establishment process of our faculty. Since its foundation, it has contributed to the training of many academics who serve not only at our faculty but also at various medical faculties across Türkiye.

The fundamental aim of our Department is to train physicians and scientists who have embraced scientific thinking, have developed research skills, and are committed to ethical values. In line with this, by advancing along the path of science and contemporary civilization, we aim to contribute to the scientific production of our country.

Education and Training

Histology and embryology are among the cornerstones of medical science. In addition to the faculties of medicine and dentistry, our Department also provides educational support to various programs in the field of health sciences.

Undergraduate Education: Theoretical and practical courses are given to 1st and 2nd year students of the Faculty of Medicine. In the practical courses, they receive hands-on training in modern, well-equipped laboratories. Similarly, applications are also carried out in the laboratory environment for the Faculty of Dentistry and the Vocational Schools.

Graduate Education: Through master's and doctoral programs, students have the opportunity to specialize in advanced research techniques, immunohistochemistry, molecular histology, and digital microscopy applications.

Medical Specialty (Residency) Education: Our Department also provides medical specialty (residency) training in the field of histology and embryology. Specialty students not only develop their theoretical and practical knowledge but also contribute to scientific production by taking an active role in research projects. In addition, during their specialty training, they receive training in Assisted Reproductive Treatment (ART) techniques and applications within the scope of a 6-month rotation, and at the end of this training they earn an official certificate. In this way, our graduates are trained as individuals who are well-equipped in both the basic sciences and clinical applications.

Research and Laboratory Infrastructure

Our Department is located within the Faculty of Medicine building, and;

  • Administrative units
  • Research laboratories
  • Student practical laboratories

it is composed of different sections such as these.

All faculty members' offices have internet connection and up-to-date technical equipment. In our research laboratories, a wide range of work can be carried out, from histological staining techniques to molecular-level analyses.

As of 2024, in addition to classical light microscopes, digital microscopy systems have begun to be used in practical courses. In this way, students can examine specimens on high-resolution screens, and laboratory experiences become more interactive and accessible. Digital microscopy allows hundreds of students to view the same specimen simultaneously, creates an interactive learning environment in classes, and can also be integrated into distance education processes.

Academic Staff and Scientific Activities

Our faculty members, who are experts in their field, contribute to the world of science through scientific research projects, national and international publications, congress presentations, and collaborations. From the beginning of their graduate and medical specialty (residency) training periods, our students are included in these projects and thus have the chance to acquire a scientific research culture at an early stage.

Our Future Vision

Histology and embryology are the key to understanding a journey of life extending from cell to organ, from embryo to birth. With technology-supported teaching methods, interdisciplinary research, and international collaborations, our Department prepares its students not only for the medicine of today but also for that of the future.
