Department of Medical Biochemistry

The Department of Biochemistry of Dicle University Faculty of Medicine was founded in 1969 by Prof. Dr. Ali Açıkgöz. As Head of the Department between 1978 and 1989, Prof. Dr. Güneri Erdem laid the foundations for the Department reaching its current position. After the death of Prof. Dr. Güneri Erdem in 1989, the headship of the Department was held by Prof. Dr. Turhan Özden (1989-1996); after the death of Prof. Dr. Turhan Özden in 1996, it was held, respectively, by Prof. Dr. Belkıs Aydınol (1996-1999), Prof. Dr. Nuriye Mete (1999-2002), and Prof. Dr. Naime Canoruç (2002-2011). Prof. Dr. Nuriye Mete currently serves as Head of the Department (2011- ). To date, 50 Medical Biochemistry Specialists, 15 doctoral and 8 master's students have been trained in the Department.
