The history of the Medical Faculty begins with the establishment of the Diyarbakır Ziya Gökalp University Implementation Association in 1960. The founders aimed to establish a university in Diyarbakır. To achieve this, negotiations were conducted to establish a faculty affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at Ankara University. On December 18, 1966, 50 students were brought from Ankara to start their medical education in Diyarbakır.

On October 1, 1969, the Medical Faculty moved to its own building, which was allocated by the Ministry of Health. The building houses anatomy, biology, chemistry, physics laboratories, and clinics. Additionally, there is a hospital affiliated with the faculty.

In 1974, the Medical Faculty became a part of the newly established Diyarbakır University, which was later renamed as "Dicle University" in 1982.

Today, Dicle Medical Faculty is one of Turkey's most important medical faculties. It continues to produce doctors for various regions in Turkey and effectively serves as the primary healthcare provider in the region.
