Department of Urology
The Department of Urology began its activities with rotating faculty members from Ankara University's Department of Urology. The first to arrive was Prof. Dr. Yusuf Ziya Müftüoğlu. Following this brief rotation, Prof. Dr. Yılmaz Türkeri was appointed as the department head and continued in this position for a long time. Thus, the active and modern urological practices that started have developed and continued to the present day. Subsequently, the Department was led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Özer, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ünal Sert, and Assist. Prof. Dr. Orhan Öztürk. Prof. Dr. M. Kamuran Bircan served as the Head of the Department from 1994 until 2005. The position of the Head of the Department was held by Prof. Dr. Hayrettin Şahin between 2005 and 2009, Prof. Dr. Abdullah Gedik between 2009 and 2012, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yaşar BOZKURT between 2012 and 2016. Since January 2017, Prof. Dr. M. Kamuran Bircan has been the Head of the Department.
The Urology Department serves with 34 beds on the first floor of our hospital. The clinic has an active stone crushing unit, urodynamic unit, abdominal and transrectal ultrasonography devices, and an X-ray unit. With these facilities, it is the most advanced Urology clinic in the region. It carries out comprehensive studies covering urological pathologies from the newborn age group onwards.
