Department of Internal Medicine

The Department of Internal Medicine at Dicle University Faculty of Medicine was founded in 1969 by Assoc. Prof. Dr. İlhami Nasuhioğlu, Specialist Dr. Sıtkı Göral, and Specialist Dr. Nedim Çobanoğlu. The first medical residents were Dr. Ahmet Taştekin, Dr. M. Salih Yıldırım, Dr. Halil Değertekin, Dr. Vedat Karaduman, Dr. Eyüp Durmuş, and Dr. Aykut Meriç. Since its establishment, the Department has trained and graduated 193 medical doctors as specialists.

Within the Dicle University Faculty of Medicine, the Department of Internal Medicine offers education, research and development, and patient care and treatment services in the fields of Hematology, Nephrology, Gastroenterohepatology, Endocrinology, and Medical Oncology.

In the areas of education, research, and development, the Department provides patient care and treatment services through eight specialized clinics, seven wards with a total of 190 beds, a hematology laboratory, an endoscopy unit, a hemodialysis unit, a thyroid ultrasound and testing room, a nephrology laboratory, a percutaneous hepatobiliary intervention room, and an outpatient chemotherapy unit.

The Department of Internal Medicine organizes theoretical and practical courses for 3rd, 4th, and 6th-year students, as well as annually updated training programs for internal medicine and related specialty residents.

The Department conducts research of a caliber that contributes to practical applications and can be published in national and international high-level conferences and journals.

Moreover, the Department provides healthcare services to its patients using state-of-the-art technology and knowledge in accordance with global standards.
