Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Dicle University Faculty of Medicine was founded in 1977 by Prof. Dr. Fikret Öner. Until 1980, the department continued its services with teaching staff from other universities in the form of 3-month rotations. In 1980, with Prof. Dr. Orhan Erman as the department head, our university moved to the current new service building, strengthened its teaching staff, and started providing healthcare and education in the field of obstetrics and gynecology from that date onwards.

In our department, specific hours on Wednesdays and Thursdays are allocated for education. Within the framework of the program, seminars, case presentations, article presentations, monthly morbidity/mortality and statistical meetings, obstetrics-pediatrics joint meetings, and advanced theoretical assistant classes are conducted. In our department, all kinds of procedures and practices related to high-risk pregnancy/perinatology, gynecology/gynecologic oncology/urogynecology, endoscopic interventions, and all procedures in obstetrics and gynecology practice are performed (excluding IVF procedures).

In our department, undergraduate education is provided to Medical Faculty students in Periods III, IV, and VI, and specialization education is provided to specialization students who pass the TUS (Specialty Qualification Examination).

During the 6-week internship for Period IV students, in addition to theoretical lessons, laboratory sessions, patient bedside training visits, and practical training in the operating room/delivery room are given. An exam is conducted at the end of the sixth week for the internship evaluation.

Research assistants are selected through the Medical Specialty Exam (TUS). Every April and/or September TUS period, 4-6 research assistants are appointed. The training duration for research assistants is 4 years.

During the specialization training, rotations in Anesthesiology, General Surgery, Urology, and Pathology are carried out.
