Department of Cardiology

The Department of Cardiology was established in 1983 as a part of the Department of Internal Medicine at Dicle University Faculty of Medicine. In 1993, it became an independent department separate from the Department of Internal Medicine. The first head of the Department was Prof. Dr. Salih Yıldırım.

The Department of Cardiology provides cardiology education to medical students. In the 3rd year, 24 hours, and in the 4th year, 52 hours of theoretical and 10 hours of practical cardiology education are given, making a total of 86 hours. 4th-year students receive clinical training in cardiac examination, bedside teaching, and practical applications in cardiology laboratories in small groups, guided by our faculty members.

Research Assistant Process

The Cardiology Department accepts 1-3 candidates per year based on the specified quota and their scores in the Medical Specialty Examination (TUS). Within the framework of the pre-specialty training program, a 12-month internal medicine rotation is conducted. Each year of the pre-specialty training includes knowledge and skill assessments, and at the end of the 4th year, a specialty examination is held.

Training Program

1 day per week: Cardiology Council (Fridays, 12:30-13:30)
1 day per week: Article Review or Conference (Tuesdays, 12:30-13:30)
1 day per week: Seminar (Thursdays, 12:30-13:30)

Research assistants actively participate, under the supervision of a faculty member, in practical applications at the coronary intensive care unit, catheter laboratories, and non-interventional cardiology laboratory. They are also involved in providing outpatient services, following consultations from external services and the emergency polyclinic.
