Department of Medical Microbiology
Dicle University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Microbiology, started its education in Diyarbakır in 1969 with the transfer of students from the Faculty of Medicine at Ankara University. The first founding chairman of the department was the late Prof. Dr. Sabahattin Payzın, who was also the founding dean. The first assistants were Eralp Arıkan and Mustafa Gürel.
When Prof. Dr. Sabahattin Payzın returned to his duties at Ankara University Faculty of Medicine, the chairmanship of the Department was carried out by the late Prof. Dr. Hasip Kurtpınar until 1981. Subsequently, the chairmanship of the Department was successively held by Prof. Dr. Recep Bingöl, Prof. Dr. Eralp Arıkan, and Prof. Dr. Ömer Mete.
Our academic staff includes 6 professors, 1 specialist doctor, 2 specialists serving as research assistants, and 1 doctoral student.
Microbiology courses are provided to the students of the Faculty of Medicine (1st, 2nd, and 3rd year), Atatürk Health Services Vocational School (1st year), Atatürk Health Services Vocational School (1st year), and the Faculty of Dentistry (2nd and 3rd year). Doctoral and specialty students are currently enrolled in a 4-semester training program, during which the assistants also participate in student lectures and practicals.
