Department of Neurology

The Neurology Department at Dicle University Faculty of Medicine was established in 1969 as part of the "Faculty of Medicine Hospital Clinics" at Diyarbakır State Hospital. The clinic, initially managed by Chief Resident Dr. Çağlar Kırçak, welcomed Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fikret Ünsal from GATA Ankara Neurology in 1970. The first residents, Dr. Gazi Özdemir and Dr. Talat Yüzbaşıoğlu, started their duties thereafter. In the following years, Dr. İsmet Koş, Dr. Nejat Koş, and Dr. Yılmaz Ütkür joined as residents. However, in 1974, Prof. Dr. Fikret Ünsal left the clinic due to his assignment to Çukurova University. In 1975, the EMG device became operational under the training of Dr. Gazi Özdemir and Prof. Dr. Korkut Yaltkaya. In 1976, the serial angiography DSA device was put into service. In 1980, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gazi Özdemir left to work at Anadolu University.

Currently, under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Nebahat Taşdemir, our team includes Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Ufuk Aluçlu, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yusuf Tamam, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ertuğrul Uzar, Asst. Prof. Dr. Yavuz Yücel, Asst. Prof. Dr. Abdullah Acar, and 6 teaching staff.

The Neurology Department Clinic provides services with 26 beds, an 8-bed Intensive Care Unit, Clinical Neurophysiology Laboratory (EEG-EMG), and outpatient services.

The objectives of the clinic are as follows:

• To contribute to the training of physicians and neurology specialists equipped with neurological knowledge and skills in line with the needs of our country and accepted international standards,
• To develop our infrastructure in both basic sciences and clinical fields to conduct comprehensive research and undertake numerous and high-quality international projects.
