Department of Medical Pharmacology

The Department of Medical Pharmacology was established in 1969. The courses of the Department were conducted with the contributions of faculty members from Ankara University and Bursa Uludağ University.

The chairmanship of the Department was held by Prof. Dr. Tülin Söylemezoğlu from 1985 to 1994, Prof. Dr. Güner Ulak from 1994 to 1996, and Prof. Dr. Ramazan Çiçek from 1996 to 2008. In 2009, the name of the Department was changed to Medical Pharmacology by the Council of Higher Education.

Since 2008, the Department of Medical Pharmacology has been chaired by Prof. Dr. Meral Erdinç. The Department consists of three laboratories, namely Pharmacology laboratory for drug studies in vivo and in vitro in experimental animals, a laboratory for molecular level analyses, and a psychopharmacology laboratory for animal behavior experiments.

The Department offers Pharmacology undergraduate courses for Medical Faculty, including Period I, II, III Pharmacology lectures, and Period IV Clinical Pharmacology internship lectures, as well as Pharmacology undergraduate courses for Dentistry students. Additionally, Doctoral and Master's programs are conducted under the Institute of Health Sciences. Currently, ten postgraduate students are enrolled in the program, and their course schedules and thesis works are ongoing.

Within the scope of the Medical Pharmacology Residency Program, the training, rotations, and thesis works of assistants are conducted. Currently, there is one Research Assistant registered in the Residency Program.

The Department conducts research on the mechanisms, pharmacology, clinical applications, and clinical studies of drugs. Alongside research activities, the Department also provides education to students and researchers through undergraduate and postgraduate programs.
