Department of English Language Teaching
The Department of English Language Teaching, within Dicle University's Ziya Gökalp Faculty of Education, has a rich history spanning over 50 years of uninterrupted English language teacher training. It was originally established in the 1971-72 academic year as part of the Diyarbakır Institute of Education under the Ministry of National Education. In the early years, students received three-year education. In the 1978-79 academic year, the institute transformed into the Diyarbakır Higher Teacher Training School, extending the education period to four years. During this period, Foreign Language teachers were trained at the Diyarbakır School of Foreign Languages.
On July 20, 1982, through Decree Law No. 41, all teacher training institutions were transferred from the Ministry of National Education to universities. Consequently, the Dicle University Faculty of Education was established by converting the Diyarbakır Higher Teacher Training School into a faculty, with the Diyarbakır School of Foreign Languages becoming part of it. Subsequently, on July 18, 2001, the Council of Ministers decided to change the name to Ziya Gökalp Faculty of Education.
