Mechanics Division

Mechanics Division

The Mechanics Division is one of the fundamental disciplines of civil engineering and focuses on the analysis of internal forces, stresses, strains, and deformations occurring within engineering structures. The Division provides the theoretical foundation necessary for the safe, durable, and economical design of civil engineering systems.

Within the scope of its educational activities, the Division offers courses in core subjects such as strength of materials, structural mechanics, structural statics, elasticity theory, dynamics, and vibrations. These courses are designed to equip students with the ability to solve engineering problems using analytical approaches and to develop a strong theoretical background applicable to advanced engineering practices. Instruction is supported not only by theoretical knowledge but also by numerical methods, computer-aided analysis techniques, and modern engineering software.

The Division also serves as a scientific foundation for other branches of civil engineering, contributing to the theoretical framework of research and applications in hydraulic engineering, geotechnical engineering, transportation engineering, and structural engineering. In this respect, the Mechanics Division occupies a critical position in promoting interdisciplinary integration within the field of civil engineering.

Research activities within the Division encompass material behavior modeling, advanced theories of strength and mechanics, structural stability problems, vibration analysis, the dynamic effects of earthquakes on structures, and next-generation computational methods. These studies contribute both to the advancement of scientific knowledge and to practical engineering applications.

In conclusion, through its educational programs and research activities, the Mechanics Division provides civil engineering students with a strong theoretical background and contributes significantly to the development of knowledge and methodologies for the safe and efficient design and analysis of engineering structures.
