DEPARTMENT OF SOCIOLOGY
History
Founded in 1996 under the name Department of Sociology, the department had its first graduates in 2000 and has continued its education activities since then. Master Degree Program related with the department started in 1999 and still continues. The Bologna framework prepared for Dicle University in 2014- 2015 academic year is ready to be implemented. The courses and syllabuses in our department are regulated in accordance with Bologna program.
Mission
To carry out educational, research and cultural activities in universal standards, to educate individuals who are competent and confident in all fields and able to think critically and independently with a strong sense of social responsibility, to educate individuals who have the ability to reach, produce, apply, and disseminate knowledge for social, cultural, economic, scientific, and technological progress of our society and mankind, to provide a flexible study environment for our students and make them continue their academic and personal journey.
Vission
Our aim is to educate sociologists who are competent and confident in all fields, who are able to think critically and independently with a strong sense of social responsibility; who have the ability to reach, produce, apply and disseminate knowledge for the social, cultural, economic, scientific and technological progress of our society and mankind with professional and ethical responsibility, and who can exchange ideas with one another.

Placement through a centralized national university placement exam.
Employment Opportunities
Students who graduate from our department can be employed as specialist, counsellor, or researcher at various institutions such the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT), public economic organizations, and in private sector. Students who complete the Secondary Education Field Teaching Pedagogical Formation Certificate Programme can be employed as teachers of philosophy as well both at the schools of Ministry of National Education and private schools. Furthermore, they can work at municipalities and social services and child protection agency.

Program Profile
4 years, 2 semesters per year, 15 weeks per semester, 30 ECTS credits.
Recognition of the Previous Department
The students who study at Dicle University may be exempt from some courses according to certain regulations. They may be exempt from the courses if the application is in time and the content is approved by the administrative board of the related vocational school/faculty/institute.
Qualification Requirements
For the minimum success in the program, all the registered courses (C/E) which are available on the program (240 ECTS in total) must be completed successfully. The registered “Elective Courses” also must be achieved. The changes can be made by the decision of Department Council in case of cancelled courses due to the syllabus renewal/rearrangement.
