DEPARTMENT OF ARCHAEOLOGY
History
Our department, which started its education as the Department of Archaeology and Art History in 1996, was divided into two separate departments as the Department of Art History and the Department of Archaeology in 2004. Educational activities continue at the Department of Archaeology, which had its first graduates in 2000. The department has had three programs since 2010: Prehistoric Archaeology, Protohistory and Near Eastern Archaeology, and Classical Archaeology. Among these programs, only the Classical Archaeology is currently active and accepting students. In the 2014-2015 academic year, courses and curriculums were arranged in accordance with the Bologna Program, which was implemented throughout Dicle University,
Mission
The department aims to promote teaching, research, and cultural activities at universal standards; to educate individuals who are competent and self-confident in every field, equipped with multidimensional and independent thinking abilities, and have a sense of social responsibility; to raise individuals who are equipped with the abilities to access, produce, apply, and disseminate knowledge for the social, cultural, economic, scientific, and technological development of our society and humanity; to create a flexible learning and working environment that enables our students to proudly advance their academic learning and development processes.
Vision
As its vision, the department aims to recognize the cultural texture of our country from a regional and national perspective, to keep up with the scientific developments in the field with its dynamic structure, to become sensitive to the socio-cultural needs required by the age, and to be a trustworthy, respected, successful and influential department in the field of education and archaeology.
