The Faculty of Education was established in 1962 under the name Diyarbakır Education Institute as a two-year higher education school training Turkish and Science teachers, and began instruction at today’s Süleyman Nazif Primary School. In 1967, when this building was allocated to the Faculty of Medicine, it was moved to the building of today’s Anatolian High School, continued its education with four departments: Turkish, Social Studies, Mathematics, and Science, and two years later it was relocated to its building on İstasyon Street. In the 1970–1971 academic year, the duration of study was extended to three years, and in the 1971–1972 academic year, with the addition of the German, English, and French departments, the number of departments increased to seven. Later, in the 1978–1979 academic year, it was transformed into a higher education school training teachers at the undergraduate level (4 years) under the name “Diyarbakır Higher Teacher School.” The Education Institute was affiliated with Dicle University under the name Faculty of Education on 20.07.1982, with the decree law numbered 41.
