Family in a Changing World: Challenges, Responsibilities, and Strategies

International Symposium - Call for Papers

We welcome submissions that examine the institution of the family from historical, theoretical, comparative, or applied perspectives, that rest on original scholarly methods, and that engage with the core questions of the symposium. The scope of the symposium is not limited to the themes and research areas listed on the Themes page. Provided that they relate to the general aim and scope, original papers that study the family through the concepts, methods, and research possibilities of different disciplines will also be considered.

The Faculty of Theology at Dicle University invites all scholars, researchers, and practitioners to contribute to this international scholarly gathering. Its aim is to discuss the contemporary problems facing the institution of the family with a sense of scholarly responsibility, to bring diverse ideas and experiences together on a shared academic ground, and to develop human-centered, just, and sustainable strategies for the future.

The symposium will be held under the leadership of the Faculty of Theology at Dicle University and under the auspices of the Rectorate of Dicle University, with the contributions and collaboration of the Diyarbakır Governorship, the Sur District Governorship, the Diyarbakır Provincial Directorate of Family and Social Services, the Diyarbakır Provincial Directorate of National Education, the Diyarbakır Provincial Muftiate, the Dicle University Center for Women's Studies (DÜKAM), the Dicle University Child Education Practice and Research Center (DÜÇAMER), and the Diyarbakır Provincial Branch of the Erdemliler Movement Association. We believe that the challenges facing a multidimensional social institution such as the family should be addressed not through academic knowledge alone, but together with the institutional experience of our public bodies, the expertise gained in the field, and the social awareness of civil society. In this respect, the contribution our stakeholders will make to the symposium will create a strong foundation for interaction between academic knowledge and social experience, adding significant value to the process that extends from identifying problems to developing applicable solutions and strategies.

Languages of Submission: Researchers wishing to present papers at the symposium may write their texts in Turkish, English, or Arabic.

Note: The symposium will be held in a hybrid format comprising both in-person and online sessions. Participation is free of charge.
