INTRODUCTION
The main purpose of the Department of Field Crops is to give education and research on cereals, edible legumes, oil, fibre, starch, sugar, growing and breeding of forage and medicinal plants, management and breeding of meadows and pastures. The department started to accept bachelor’s students in 1993-1994 academic year, and graduate students in 1997.
In the department, there is a total of 17 academic staff including 5 professors, 9 associate professors, 1 assistant professor and 2 research assistants. In the department there are 100 decares of testing area, 3500 decares of seed production area, 1 greenhouse, 1 unit of 2 tons / hour capacity seed cleaning machine, tractors, and tools and equipment used in field agriculture that are utilised in research, teaching, and production activities. The department also has 2 modern laboratories (oil and protein analysis and medicinal and aromatic plants).
