PHARMACEUTICAL CHEMISTRY

Pharmaceutical Chemistry is a department of research that combines the fields of biology, medicine,and pharmaceutical sciences. Our department focuses on the development of novel drug substances withvarious biological activities, the development of synthetic methods, and identification of thesecompounds using spectral techniques. By doing this research, scientists hope to discover structuralproperties needed to develop more effective molecules capable of exhibiting biological activity. As aresult of these investigations, it is hoped that more effective compounds that can demonstrate biologicalactivity will be discovered in the future. Aside from organic synthesis, Pharmaceutical Chemistry studiesinclude molecular modelling and computer-aided drug design, the study of drug metabolism, the analysisof drugs with qualitative and quantitative analytical methods; all of which are part of the foundation ofthe field.
