Department of Social Service

History

Dicle University Department of Social Work was opened in 2008 within the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences. As of 2021, the department has 1 Professor, 1 Associate Professor and 1 Doctor Research Assistant. It is planned that the department will start its education life and accept students in the 2021-2022 Academic Year.

Our Mission and Vision

With an interdisciplinary perspective, it is aimed to contribute to the production of policies with information and service models for social welfare areas, which are suitable for changing social conditions, trying to minimize inequalities in society, aiming at improving the well-being of people, especially disadvantaged groups, by using scientific methods and techniques, taking into account local social conditions.

Our vision is to be an efficient, effective and open to development scientific institution with a strong corporate culture, by taking into account the universal characteristics of social work education, science and profession, by ensuring its development and dissemination in cooperation with institutions and organizations on a local, national and international scale.

What is Social Services?

The global definition of the social work profession, approved in 2014 by the International Federation of Social Workers (IFSW) and the International Association of Schools of Social Work (IASSW), is as follows:

"Social work; It is a practice-based professional and academic discipline that promotes social change and development, social integration, empowerment and emancipation of people. Social work centers on the principles of social justice, human rights, shared responsibility and respect for differences. Supported by social work theories, humanities, social sciences, and local knowledge, social work works with people and structures to tackle life challenges and promote well-being. This definition of social work can be developed at the national and/or regional levels.”

Who is a Social Worker?

Social worker; providing, restoring, protecting and developing psycho-social functionality by improving the problem solving and coping capacities of the individual, family, group and society; supporting social change, planning and implementing social policies and programs in order to meet human needs, making use of theories related to human behavior and social systems, and implementing social work-specific methods and techniques.

Where are social workers employed?

Graduates of the Social Work department work in the fields of health, special education, youth, social security, social assistance, employment, higher education and similar areas, especially the Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Services and all the General Directorate, provincial organizations and institutions affiliated to this Ministry.
