History

Dicle University Department of Biology was established on November 21, 1973. The department initially opened as Botany and Zoology programs within the Faculty of Science. On July 20, 1982, it continued its activities with four departments (General Biology, Molecular Biology, Botany, and Zoology) under the Faculty of Science and Literature. On September 2, 2009, the Faculty of Science was established by merging the Faculty of Science and Literature, and the Department of Biology has been operating under the Faculty of Science since that date.

On June 13, 2005, with the establishment of two new departments under the names of Hydrobiology and Biotechnology, the number of departments increased to six. However, due to the recent establishment of the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, the Molecular Biology Department within the Biology Department was closed.

Today, the Department of Biology has five departments. In addition to undergraduate, master's, and doctoral education, various research projects are also carried out within the department. Within this scope, there are 8 research laboratories and 2 student laboratories that can provide services for undergraduate education and postgraduate research.

Dicle University Institute of Natural Sciences was founded on December 6, 1983. Our department, under the Institute of Natural Sciences, started accepting postgraduate students in 1984 and began genuine academic activities. Our department offers both "THESIS-BASED MASTER'S" and "DOCTORAL" programs. In addition to undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral education, various research projects are also conducted.
