International students must have
a valid health insurance during their stay in Türkiye. Please carefully follow
your insurance process not to encounter any problems or go in any debt in the
future. Once your health
insurance expires, you must renew it as soon as possible and report Migration
Office regarding your health insurance renewal. In order to avoid legal and
health problems, it is of vital importance to renew your health insurance.
Governmental health insurance (General Health Insurance/GHI/GSS) provided
by Social Security Institution for international students is strongly
recommended by our university or students can also take out private
health insurance if they wish. If you want to have private health insurance,
you should regularly extend your insurance policy.
In order to have GSS, you must apply to the Social Security Provincial
Directorate or to the Social Security Center (SGM) of the district where the
student resides within 3 months after your registration date (first
registration to the university) and after receiving your foreign national ID
number. (If you
do not apply within this period, you will not have the chance to apply to GSS
again) Annual GSS
premium for 2022 is approximately 2400 TL. Required documents are located at
the end of this page.
As per the law, students who have not applied for GSS within 3
months of registration cannot benefit from this right afterwards. Therefore,
students are strongly advised not to neglect this process. You have the right
to apply for GSS again in case of a change in the department/program and
education stage (for example, transitioning from undergraduate program to
graduate program).
