Meeting
The “Western
Languages and Literatures Career Meeting”, held on December 25, 2024
at Dicle University Sezai Karakoç Faculty of Letters, brought together
students, academics, and experts from various fields.
The event
featured presentations by Gözde CAN (Aviation Sector - Flight
Attendant), Dr. Uğur KAVAL (Career Planning Application and
Research Center Specialist at Dicle University), Assoc. Prof. Dr.
Ecevit BEKLER (Head of the Department of Western Languages and
Literatures), Yakup TOPRAK (Trainer), and Research
Assistant Gökçe YETKİN (the Department of English Language and
Literature).
Career in Aviation and the Importance of
Foreign Languages
The event
commenced with Gözde CAN’s presentation. Sharing her story of
entering the aviation sector, Ms CAN highlighted career opportunities,
working conditions, and the advantages of foreign language proficiency in
the aviation industry. She also addressed crisis management and
the critical role of language skills in professional life.
Opportunities and Platforms in Career
Planning
Dr. Uğur KAVAL provided
valuable insight into career planning, introducing platforms such as “yetenekkapisi.org,”
“Üni-Veri,” “Advisor Information System (DABİS),” and BTK Academy. He
emphasized the importance of effectively utilizing these resources to shape
students’ career paths.
CELTA: A Gateway to International
Language Teaching
The third
presentation was delivered by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ecevit BEKLER, focusing on
the CELTA certification program. Mr BEKLER elaborated on the advantages
of CELTA in language teaching, the application process, and the
differences between face-to-face and online program formats. He also
discussed the benefits of obtaining CELTA certification, due to its worldwide
recognition, in finding jobs for teaching English in various countries.
EU Programs and Career Opportunities in
the Third Sector
Trainer Yakup
TOPRAK brought an interactive and engaging dynamic to the event with his
presentation. He covered career opportunities in the third sector (NGOs) and
how students can gain international experience through EU programs and
ERASMUS+ mobility initiatives. Mr TOPRAK provided practical examples of how
students can access these opportunities.
Embracing Research: An Academic Journey
The final
presentation was delivered by Research Assistant Gökçe YETKİN with
the title “Embracing Research.” Ms YETKİN focused on the path
to becoming a research assistant, discussing the necessary qualifications,
skills, and personal development required for the role. She also shared
her own academic journey, explaining how she acquired these skills,
collaborated with various institutions and individuals, and aligned her
research efforts with 21st-century competencies and sustainable
development goals.
Q&A and Closing Remarks
In the closing
session, students had the opportunity to ask questions and engage directly with
the speakers. The Q&A segment provided valuable guidance and insight
into career paths for graduates of the Western Languages and Literature
Department.
This event
offered students a comprehensive roadmap for their academic and
professional development, aiming to inspire and guide them in their career
planning journeys. The event concluded with great enthusiasm and participation.
