Department of Agricultural Machinery and Technologies Engineering

Department of Agricultural Machinery and Technologies Engineering

The Department of Agricultural Machinery and Technologies Engineering was established within the Faculty of Agriculture in 2004. The fundamental goal of the department is to address challenges related to mechanization in both plant and animal production, and to enhance production processes for greater ease and efficiency.

The core research areas of the department include:

  • Soil processing mechanization
  • Planting, sowing, and fertilization mechanization
  • Irrigation mechanization
  • Harvesting and threshing mechanization
  • Post-harvest processes mechanization
  • Energy utilization in agriculture
  • Agricultural electrification
  • Management and planning of agricultural machinery
  • Mechanization in animal production
  • Agricultural machinery design
  • Engines and agricultural tractors
  • Precision agriculture applications

Starting from 2011, the Department has been authorized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock of the Republic of Turkey to conduct experiments and report on various agricultural tools and machinery that receive credit sales support. Due to this authorization, the Department is an active member of the Agricultural Mechanization Board.

Since its establishment, the Department has developed infrastructure facilities such as Technical Drawing Room, Biological Materials Laboratory, Irrigation Laboratory, Mechanical Processing Workshop, Plant Protection Laboratory, and Thermal Engine Laboratory to carry out educational, research, and instructional activities. Additionally, starting from the Fall Semester of the 2018-2019 academic year, the Department began offering Master's level education within the scope of the Agricultural Machinery and Technologies Engineering Subdepartment.

Throughout their education, students will:

  • Gain the ability to use modern engineering techniques, skills, and computational tools for engineering applications.
  • Develop skills in accessing information through research, using database and other information sources, designing experiments, collecting and analyzing data, and interpreting results.
  • Acquire the ability to identify, define, monitor, and solve contemporary professional problems, selecting and applying appropriate methods and techniques.
  • Possess the ability to analyze and design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs under realistic constraints, utilizing modern design methods.
  • Be aware of the universal and societal dimensions of engineering solutions and applications, have knowledge of entrepreneurship and innovation, and be informed about the issues of the era.
  • Develop the capability to select, plan, operate, and troubleshoot optimal mechanization systems in agriculture and agro-industrial establishments, and to provide appropriate solutions for encountered problems.
  • Plan and utilize energy resources in agricultural and agro-industrial fields in an environmentally friendly manner, have sufficient awareness about environmental protection, occupational health and safety, and quality issues, work effectively within multidisciplinary teams, and have the self-confidence and capability to take responsibilities and offer consultancy services in relevant sectors.
  • Possess awareness of the necessity of lifelong learning, the ability to follow developments in science and technology, and to constantly renew oneself, understand and be able to take on professional and ethical responsibilities, and possess the ability to communicate effectively using oral, written, and visual means in Turkish.
  • Upon graduation, our alumni will have a solid foundation in basic sciences and related engineering topics, and the capability to use these knowledge areas together to solve problems in the field of agricultural machinery.

Upon completion of their education in the department, students are awarded a bachelor's degree in "Agricultural Engineering" and the title of "Agricultural Engineer." This is also indicated on the diploma.

Graduates of the Department of Agricultural Machinery and Technologies Engineering, holding the title of "Agricultural Engineer," can find employment and work at institutions such as the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock of the Republic of Turkey, Ziraat Bank, and other public and private banks, Agricultural Credit Cooperatives, Municipalities, agricultural machinery and tractor manufacturers and dealerships, maintenance, repair, spare parts, and marketing companies, as well as private farms and similar organizations.
