Language of Instruction

LANGUAGE OF INSTRUCTION

The language of instruction at our university is Turkish. However, the language of instruction in the English Language and Literature Department of the Faculty of Letters and the English Language Teaching Department of Ziya Gökalp Faculty of Education is English. The language of instruction in the Department of German Language Teaching at Ziya Gökalp Faculty of Education is German.

The following requirements must be satisfied in order for candidates accepted to programs taught in Turkish to start their education after enrollment;

  • Students who do not have Turkish proficiency must take the Turkish Proficiency Exam (TYS), which will be held in the second week of the academic year according to paragraph 3 of Article 16 of the University Language Teaching Application and Research Center Regulation, and must score at least 60 points out of 100.
  • Have Turkish Proficiency Certificate issued by our University or Higher Education Institutions in our country,
  • who has a Turkish Language Proficiency Certificate issued by Yunus Emre Institute,
  • Turkish Proficiency Certificate is not required from candidates who completed their secondary education in Turkish High Schools affiliated to the Ministry of National Education.

According to the European Language Portfolio, the Turkish proficiency levels are outlined as follows:

  • C2 Level: Proficient in Turkish. Can start their education.
  • C1 Level: Proficient in Turkish. Can start their education.
  • B2 Level: Turkish proficiency can improve in a short period of time. Can start their education, but must reach a Turkish proficiency level of C1 or C2 by the time of graduation.
  • B1 Level: Turkish proficiency is sufficient to start education at our university, but must reach a Turkish proficiency level of C1 or C2 by the time of graduation.
  • A2 Level: Insufficient proficiency in Turkish. They will be granted a one-year leave of absence and are obliged to learn Turkish. They can start their education after reaching at least B1 level of Turkish proficiency, but must reach a Turkish proficiency level of C1 or C2 by the time of graduation.
  • A1 Level: Insufficient proficiency in Turkish. They will be granted a one-year leave of absence and are obliged to learn Turkish. They can start their education after reaching at least B1 level of Turkish proficiency, but must reach a Turkish proficiency level of C1 or C2 by the time of graduation.

Students who have the right to enroll in our university and cannot submit a Turkish Proficiency Certificate or who are not successful in the TYS exam conducted by the Language Teaching Application and Research Centre are obliged to attend A1-A2 Turkish courses if provided by the Dicle University Language Teaching Application and Research Centre within 1 year of their leave of absence.

Foreign Language Proficiency

Candidates who are admitted to programmes that provide compulsory foreign language preparatory education and programmes that teach in a certain foreign language are obliged to submit the results of the International Foreign Language Exams with a sufficient score accepted by the Interuniversity Board during registration. Those who cannot submit any of these documents are required to take the Foreign Language Proficiency Exam conducted by the School of Foreign Languages of our University and must score at least 60 points out of 100. If the candidates fail the Foreign Language Proficiency Exam, they may continue their Foreign Language Preparatory Education at the School of Foreign Languages of our University or at a centre of their choice. The registration of the candidate who does not meet the required foreign language proficiency within two years is cancelled.
