History

The Faculty of Education was founded in 1962 as the Diyarbakır Education Institute, a two-year college that trained Turkish and science teachers. The institute was initially located at the Süleyman Nazif Primary School, but it moved to the building of the Anatolian High School in 1967 when that building was given to the Faculty of Medicine. In 1969, the institute moved to its current building on İstasyon Street.

In 1970-1971, the institute's duration of education was increased from two years to three years. In 1971-1972, the institute added the German, English, and French departments, bringing the total number of departments to seven. In 1978-1979, the institute was transformed into a college that trained teachers at the undergraduate level (four years) under the name of "Diyarbakır Higher Teacher Training School."

On July 20, 1982, with the issuance of Decree Law No. 41, the Institute of Education was officially affiliated with Dicle University and became known as the Faculty of Education. This integration marked a new chapter in the institution's history, further solidifying its commitment to teacher education and academic excellence.
