Department of Field Crops has been continuing by 13 academic staff to educational and research activities. There are more than 44 postgraduates students. This department focuses on agronomy and breeding of cereals, industrial crops and forage crops as well as range and pasture development and improvement. Teaching is by lectures, tutorials and practical work in the research area and laboratories of the department. Research in the Department is concerned with general agronomical, physiological, ecological, biotechnical, and genetic aspects of these crops, as well as with more advanced crop-rotation systems suitable for the region. Our department collaborates with international and national agencies such as CIMMYT, ICARDA, and Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs

The graduate curriculum is designed with consideration to provide students with the current ideas in the major areas of field crops (cereals, organic farming, industrial crops, plant breeding).

MSc by Thesis

In addition to advanced courses taken, the thesis project affords the student practical experience in the methods used to obtain new knowledge and to develop the skills necessary to understand and relate this knowledge. The department maintains a wide variety of research programs, giving each student an opportunity to conduct, evaluate, and report on original research.

Objectives

field crops programme aims at exploring various issues in field crops, both in theoretical and practical fields. The main area of research spans all sub-disciplines, from plant cultivation to plant breeding.

Facilities

The department hosts eight research laboratories located in the building of Faculty of Agriculture with remarkable facilities.

Department has biotechnology and chemical analysis laboratory, and 20 hectares of irrigated land in which was conducted growing and breeding research.
